2019 Treasurer’s Report

By: Racheal Benezette

ARFFWG Family and Friends,

For those of you who do not know me, I am Racheal Benezette and I have been an active duty ARFF Marine for just under 20 years.  For the last three years, I have served as the Fire Chief at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, N.C.  Prior to that, I was the Fire and Emergency Services and Expeditionary Airfield Officer in Yuma, AZ for three years.  I have also served as the Assistant Chief of Training and as the Station Captain at both Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in NC and Marine Corps Base Hawaii, in Kaneohe Bay.

I was able to attend my first ARFFWG conference in Frisco, TX in September of 2016.  I was immediately impressed by this organization and the phenomenal individuals that I met.  In 2017, I was nominated and elected to serve as the Section 14 Director, representing the Department of Defense both foreign and domestic.  I was highly motivated to share this organization and what it has to offer to anyone and everyone that I knew.  Unfortunately, there are many loop holes (I’m sure you all know and understand) when it comes to the government funding a trip this great to go and “hang out” with your colleagues.  However, I have continued to try and impress upon anyone who may not understand, that we learn from one another and that our civilian counterparts are advanced in areas where we may not be and vice versa. I have learned so many things that I have been able to take back to my unit in particular and the Marine Corps as a whole, to share with them to and hopefully change procedures or our way of thinking.

In September of 2018, I was unable to attend the annual conference due to Hurricane Florence.  However, I had the pleasure of being nominated and elected as the ARFFWG Treasurer.  As some of you may know, I am passionate about finances and recently completed my degree with Park University in Management Finance.  I thought that this would be a great way to learn the ropes and help the organization.  However, I will not take any credit for any of the work because between Ronnie Krusleski and Barb Haas, they have kept me afloat.  Thank you both, immensely!  It seems like there are never enough hours in the day.

I have really enjoyed sharing the ARFFWG and what it stands for with potential/future vendors and/or members.  Sometimes it may not be the best fit for them, but they tell another colleague, friend or family member and we still end up with a new vendor or member.  This is such a great organization, but we cannot make it without our members or our vendors.  Please help us share the word and bring more people in to join us.

I am happy to report that the ARFFWG is financially sound.  A large portion of the funds in these accounts will be utilized for the 30th Annual Conference.  Here are the numbers:
