Roderick M. Smith (Rod) has twenty years of fire service experience with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. He has promoted through every rank up to his current position of Assistant Chief. He is currently assigned to the Airport Division of Atlanta Fire Rescue at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA) Airport. Chief Smith is responsible providing oversight and managing ARFF Operations, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Prevention Services for H-JAIA; along with development and implementation of strategic initiatives for long term preparation and provision of services.
Chief Smith has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Morehouse College and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. In addition, he holds numerous certifications such as Paramedic, Post Certified Instructor, NIMS Type-3 Communications Leader, ARC ESRI GIS I & II to name a few.
