Two people were killed in a small plane crash near Thorsby, Alta., on Saturday, according to RCMP.

Police were called just after 1:40 p.m. for reports of a Harmon Rocket plane crashing in a field near Township Road 504 and Range Road 2 and catching fire.

RCMP said that there were two people from Rocky Mountain House — a 59-year-old male pilot and a 48-year-old woman who was the passenger — on board the aircraft when it crashed and both died from their injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.

Thorsby is about 70 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
