Two people were found dead in a plane crash Friday afternoon near Winslow, according to officials.

Police responded to a report of a small plane crash north of Interstate 40 near State Route 87 and Winslow, which is about three hours northeast of Phoenix. 

The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, Winslow police and fire officials, and the Arizona Department of Safety responded to the scene. Officials found an aircraft on fire and put out the flames. 

The Sheriff’s Office said two people aboard the plane were found dead and that no other people were involved. 

The investigation was conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration, the Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. Sheriff’s Office detectives assisted with the initial investigation.
