Two people escaped injury when their plane slid off a runway at the airport in Edgewater and ended upside down in a ditch filled with water, officials said

The plane crash was reported at 9:40 a.m. at the Massey Ranch Airpark, said city of Edgewater spokeswoman Jill Danigel.

“There were reports of a small experimental aircraft upside down in a pond,” Danigel said.

Firefighters from Edgewater and neighboring agencies arrived at the scene of the accident near Massey Ranch Road and found that the two people on board the small aircraft had escaped uninjured, Danigel said.

Authorities said that the Federal Aviation Administration was notified and will investigate the crash.

According to online FAA Registry information, the small aircraft is a fixed-wing, amateur-built experimental plane manufactured in 2018.

FAA records show the aircraft is registered to John H. Robinson of North Carolina.
