A helicopter crashed in Colusa County. The FAA said it was a Robinson R66 helicopter with four people on board.

COLUSA, Calif. – Four people died in a helicopter crash in a field near Highway 45 at Reservation Rd., right by the Sacramento River, according to the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and Sacramento River Fire District personnel found the passengers inside of the helicopter and declared them dead at the scene of the crash.

Responders said they do not know what led to the fatal crash, according to the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft that crashed was a Robinson R66 helicopter. They said it crashed at approximately 1:15 p.m. in a remote part of Colusa County.

The FAA said they will release the helicopter’s tail number when their investigators verify it at the scene. They said both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be investigating this crash.

The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the scene of the crash and is trying to interview anyone who witnessed the incident. Witnesses can call Sergeant Arnold Navarro at the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office is (530) 458-0200.
