Montpellier airport is closed until further notice. A cargo plane overran the runway at Montpellier-Méditerranée airport. He finished his race in the Mauguio pond overnight from Friday to Saturday. The three people on board were not injured.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, around 2:50 a.m., a freight plane left the runway at Montpellier-Méditerranée airport. It is a mail transport plane, a Boeing 737, which was in the landing phase. He went too far on the track and ended up in the Etang de l’Or in Mauguio.

The three people in the aircraft are unharmed . They were extricated and brought to safety. For the moment, the plane is immobilized at the end of the runway. The front part of the plane is partly submerged.

Airport closed

As a security measure, Montpellier airport is closed until further notice . No flights can take place at the moment, including commercial ones. You have to wait for a specialized company to intervene to move the device.

All flights have been canceled or diverted. Passengers who had to go to Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport were taken care of by Air France. They boarded buses, heading for Marseille airport. A solution was offered to them if they had to make a connection in Paris. All other trips, those of “low cost” companies, have been canceled.

Firefighters on site

Sixty Hérault firefighters , including water rescue specialists and air transport police, are on site.

Four agents from the Bureau Enquête Analyze are expected on site, to carry out the findings on and around the device. They are the ones responsible for investigating the circumstances and causes of the accident, which took place when torrential rains accompanied by gusts of wind fell on this part of the coast.
