An aircraft accident occurred at the airfield in Herzogenaurach on Tuesday afternoon. However, the pilot was able to prevent worse and the other occupants – including a small child – from injuries.

On Tuesday afternoon (April 12, 2022), a propeller plane crash-landed at the airfield in Herzogenaurach in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district. According to News5, the cause of the crash landing was a technical defect in the aircraft’s landing gear.

The consequence of this was that one of the wheels could not be extended on landing. A family of three, including a small child, were on the plane. Fortunately, the pilot and at the same time the father of the family was able to land the plane in such a way that no one was injured.

Crash landing in Herzogenaurach: Pilot can prevent worse – “was a masterpiece”

“The pilot kept the plane on the runway until it came to a standstill. That was a masterpiece,” Sebastian Weber, spokesman for the Erlangen-Höchstadt district fire inspection, told News5. Weber was called to the airfield along with other members of the fire brigade, the THW and the rescue service.

Leaking operating materials had to be tied up by the fire brigade. The emergency services also ensured fire protection on site. Finally, Weber adds: “It was actually luck in disguise.”

As the Herzogenaurach Police Inspectorate added in a press release, the damage was around 100,000 euros.
