A two-seat plane crashed almost immediately after taking off from Saint-Jean-Port-Joli airport on Sunday night, killing its 22-year-old passenger. The identity of the victim was unveiled by the Sûreté du Québec on Monday morning. It is Vincent Robichaud, 22, from Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley.

“The plane crashed on the ground during take-off,” said Sûreté du Québec spokesman Stéphane Tremblay. The aircraft was taking off towards the west. He turned left and immediately crashed. ”

“When an accident has just happened, you really have to be factual, warns the civil aviation expert Jean Lapointe. All causes are possible and we must eliminate them one at a time. ”

“Superb” conditions

However, it is unlikely that the weather could have played a bad trick to the driver, said Mr. Lapointe, who himself took the skies four times Sunday.

“The flying conditions were great all across the province,” he says. This means that there was probably a mechanical problem or a steering error. I do not think the environment has been a factor. ”

Investigation

Rebuilding experts and investigators from the Sûreté du Québec Major Crime and Forensic Identification Units were dispatched to conduct the investigation.

The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and is expected to send a team to Saint-Jean-Port-Joli on Monday to clarify the causes of the crash.
