EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A private plane crashed at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport on Tuesday morning.
According to Eau Claire Fire and Rescue, no one was hurt. It’s known whether the plane was departing or landing, but Eau Claire Fire and Rescue said the plane spun out into the grass after it’s landing gear malfunctioned.
The Eau Claire Police Department and Eau Claire Fire and Rescue responded to the airport just after 10:00 a.m. Crews said there was some damage to the plane, but nothing major and there were no flames. Charity Zich, the director of the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, said there were two people on the plane at the time of the crash. Both of them were men. She said crashes like this have happened at the airport before.
“Maybe a year and a half ago, we had another aircraf that was another small, single engine aircraft that went off the runway,” Zich said. “So, it doesn’t happen a lot but it does happen and, you know, thankfully no injuries in that circumstance either.”
We don’t know who the pilot of the plane was or who owns the plane at this time. The crash is still being investigated.
