20th July 2021 – (Hong Kong) At 12.28pm this afternoon (20th), the control tower of Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok received a notice that a UPS flight was suspected to have an emergency return due to a malfunction. The airport immediately made a comprehensive emergency alert, and the airport fire station sent multiple fire trucks to assist.
The aircraft finally landed safely on the north runway. The fire truck sprayed foam to put out the fire on one of its left engines.
A spokesman for the Airport Authority said that the airport control tower received a notification that a UPS cargo plane with flight number 5X0003 from Hong Kong to Dubai needed to return for emergency landing. The airport was fully on standby and the flight landed safely on the north runway at 12.30pm today.
