RUSH VALLEY, Utah (KUTV) — Officials confirmed the start of the new Morgan Canyon Fire in Tooele County is the result of a fatal plane crash in the Deseret Peak Wilderness.

The plane crash occurred late Thursday night with reports of the fire coming in during the overnight hours into Friday morning.

It was reported to The National Transportation Safety Board that two people were killed in the crash but local authorities have yet to release their identities.

What may have caused the crash is also unknown at this time.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

The Morgan Canyon Fire has increased in size to 37 acres with zero percent containment.

The fire is burning between Grantsville and Rush Valley.

A Temporary Flight Restriction is currently in place in the area.
