PEORIA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – A father and son suffered  minor injuries after their single-engine plane crashed into Lake Pleasant Saturday afternoon.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the victims. MCSO says the pilot was 63-year-old Mahmood Fani-Tehrani, and the passenger was his son, 36-year-old Fabien Tehrani.

The incident occurred just after 1 p.m.

Several witnesses watched the plane go down.

“It looked like they were just going to buzz the water, it’s what I thought they were going to do. And they didn’t buzz the water; they hit the water!” one witness says,

“Holy cow; a plane’s just crashed!” is what another witness remembers saying when the plane went down.

Two good Samaritans spotted the men in the water and were able to pull them to safety.

Both father and son were treated for minor injuries.

MCSO said that this is an ongoing investigation and added that it’s too early to tell what caused the plane to go down.

According to the FAA, it typically takes the NTSB a year or more to determine a probable cause for an accident.
