FULTON COUNTY – A small plane crashed Tuesday morning at the Fulton County Airport, Fulton County Sheriff’s officials said.

The pilot, the only occupant of the plane, walked away uninjured, officials said.

The preliminary investigation pointed to mechanical and electrical issues as the cause, officials said.

The crash happened at the airport and involved a Cessna aircraft, officials said in a Facebook post. The post, just before 9 a.m., did not indicate the time of the crash.

Officials did not identify the pilot, but indicated the pilot is from Vermont.

The pilot reported to investigators that the plane’s cabin filled with smoke, officials said. Indications are that the pilot followed all appropriate protocols, officials said.

Upon landing, it appeared there was an additional failure of the landing gear, officials said.

Officials stressed that the investigation remained preliminary and said that the National Transportation Safety Board will issue a final report in the future.

The Fulton County Emergency Management Services Coordinator and the local fire department were on scene. The FAA and the NTSB have also been notified, officials said.

The airport was to remain closed until the investigation is complete or until the FAA authorizes its reopening, officials said.

The Fulton County Airport is located on Route 67, just east of Johnstown.
