SANTA ROSA COUNTY, FLA. (WEAR-TV) — A male in his 50’s died in a ultralight aircraft accident Monday in Midway just Northeast of Portofino.

Midway Fire Department were dispatched for assistance at Opal Beach. Officials say the call was originally sent in to Escambia County with a lifeguard and EMS who were put on standby at Opal Beach

According to the Midway Fire Department Chief Jon Kanzigg the motorized aircraft crashed around noon.

The Midway Fire Department arrived on the scene with a boat at approximately 12:06 p.m.

Fire Chief Kanzigg told us the pilot of the aircraft was pulled from the water by a good Samaritan who helped transferred the victim to the fire boat.

The victim was transported to the Oriole Beach Boat Ramp where he was pronounced dead on at 12:21 p.m.

Florida Fish and Wildlife and Federal Aviation Administration will conducting the investigation.
