A pilot was been hurt after small plane crashed on Dejarnette Lane around 9 a.m. Monday in front of Providence Christian Academy, the Murfreesboro Police Department reported.
The pilot, who was alert and talking to first responders, was taken to a hospital for treatment, said MPD spokesman Larry Flowers. The extent of the pilot’s injuries was not immediately available.
Part of Dejarnette Lane was closed for a brief time.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, Flowers said.
The site of the crash is roughly half a mile from the end of Murfreesboro Municipal Airport’s runway.
MTSU spokesperson Jimmy Hart confirmed the plane did not belong to the university’s aerospace department, which trains students for various careers in aviation.
According to FAA records, the aircraft is a Cessna 140 registered to a Smyrna address. It was not immediately clear if the pilot was also the registered owner.
As of March, the airport averaged around 400 runway operations daily, manager Chad Gerkhe said previously.
