Firefighters contain small fuel leak

PORT TOWNSEND — No one was injured after a plane flipped over while landing on the runway at the Jefferson County International Airport.

Units from East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded to the plane crash at 1:28 p.m. Monday, said Phyllis Speser, public information officer.

Both people aboard the Cessna 185 got out of the aircraft by themselves and were uninjured, Speser said.

Firefighters disconnected the plane’s battery at the scene to prevent a possible fire due to sparking, Speser said.

Firefighters remained on the scene to contain a small fuel leak until Port of Port Townsend officials could get its hazmat unit on site, Speser said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
