PIKE TWP. – A mechanical issue forced the pilot of 1982 Cessna to crash land in a field near East Sparta on Tuesday afternoon, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Robert J. Donahue, 68, of Akron, told investigators he lost power in his aircraft and landed in an open field in Pike Township about 4:19 p.m.

Troopers said Donahue was not injured in the crash and the aircraft sustained minimal damage.

The crash is under investigation by the state troopers. The Federal Aviation Administration also responded to the crash scene.
