SMITH TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a downed plane in Smith Township.
The plane is reported to have gone down about 7:15 p.m. Friday near 12th Street and Courtney Road.
According to officials at the scene, the pilot, 23-year-old Jonathan Sprague, of Salem, was coming from the Skeets Airport in Warren, heading to the Tri-City Airport in Sebring when he experienced engine trouble and put the plane down in a cornfield.
Minor injuries were reported, and the pilot did not need medical attention.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to secure the scene, and the Federal Aviation Administration will be handling the investigation.
The 1972 Piper Cherokee is registered to Fluid Process Automation, LLC in Alliance.
