A small plane crashed at Space Coast Regional Airport Thursday afternoon in Titusville, killing one person, police said.

The plane, a single-engine Velocity RG, crashed near the runway at the airport at about 4 p.m., Federal Aviation Administration told FLORIDA TODAY in a statement.

FAA said only the pilot was on board.

The plane was “engulfed” in flames when Titusville Police responded to the crash, police said. They found the adult male pilot dead at the scene.

The pilot’s identity was not released Thursday afternoon. FAA officials said the agency will investigate the incident with the assistance of the National Transportation Safety Board and Titusville Police Department.
