JEWETT — A Massachusetts man is lucky to be alive after the plane he was piloting made a hard landing and flipped over in a field in Jewett on Thursday afternoon, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
The pilot, whose name has not been released, took off from Indiana and was flying to the Columbia County Airport when he ran out of fuel and tried to land the aircraft in a field just before the plane flipped over, Greene County Sheriff Greg Seeley said Thursday night.
“He almost made it to Columbia County,” Seeley said.
The pilot suffered facial cuts and bruises, Seeley said.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Seeley said.
More information about the crash will be released Friday, Seeley said. The plane will be removed from the scene and examined, he added.
