RIPON – Four occupants of a single engine plane that crash-landed in a farm field Thursday outside Ripon walked away without major injuries.
The pilot, 40-year-old Justin Click, from Hobart, Indiana, was treated for minor injuries at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 12:20 p.m. along Locust Road, about a mile outside the city of Ripon in Fond du Lac County.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the 1933 Stinson single engine plane was traveling from Indiana to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh and experienced a mechanical issue with fuel.
Click attempted to land the plane in a field but due to the wet ground, the front tires of the plane dug into the mud causing the plane to flip and land on its roof, said Sgt. Ryan Zitlow.
Passengers included Malachais Schavey, 18, Ryan Baimakovich, 20, and an 11-year-old female — all from Hobart, Indiana. All occupants of the plane were wearing safety belts.
Town of Ripon police, medical personnel from Ripon Fire Department and Ripon Guardian Ambulance assisted at the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash, along with Ripon police.
