ABLES SPRINGS, Texas — A pilot was uninjured after a plane crash in northeastern Kaufman County on Thursday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., on Thursday, September 24, 2020, The Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the plane crash in a heavily-wooded area off County Road 342.

The pilot was traveling from Colleyville, Texas, to an airport in Van Zandt County when he reportedly lost power, Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford tells inForney.com.

The plane struck several trees on its descent but the pilot was uninjured, according to officials.

Bradford says the investigation will be turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Elmo Fire Department, CareFlite, and Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene.

A small fuel leak was reported at the scene.
