CORNING, Calif. – 8:14 P.M. UPDATE – Tehama County Sheriff Dave Kain tells Action News Now that they have identified the dead pilot as Ruben Lima, 34, of Corning.

Kain says Lima had been a pilot for three years before Wednesday night’s crash.

Witnesses say Lima was doing aerobatics in a kit plane and was in the middle of doing a roll when he lost control, and the plane’s left wing and the aircraft plummeted to the ground, TCSO said.

TCSO says Lima’s plane crashed into an olive orchard on the other side of the railroad tracks from Highway 99 west and Gallagher Avenue.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA will be on the scene Thurs. morning to investigate

TCSO says there are no air travel, roadway, or railroad delays at this time.
