NORTHAMPTON – An airplane flipped over at Northampton Airport late Thursday morning, although no one was injured in the crash.

Vinnie Melling, the assistant manager of the airport, said the pilot of the plane was on the runway testing out the aircraft when he lost control of the plane shortly after 11 a.m.

“He didn’t actually fly it,” Melling said. “He was doing what we call a fast taxi.”

Melling said that the plane went into the grass after the pilot lost directional control and it flipped over.

“It seemed dramatic but it really wasn’t as big a deal,” he said.

The Northampton Police Department and the Northampton Fire Department responded on the scene, as did the State Police. The Federal Aviation Administration also responded to the scene and is investigating the crash.

Melling said it’s been a while since something like the crash has happened at the airport.
