A pilot landing a single-engine airplane at the Placerville Airport Friday evening reportedly skid off the runway, crashing into dense brush 20 feet down an embankment.

El Dorado County Fire Protection District officials say the pilot was able to get out of the aircraft on their own and was evaluated by medics at the scene.

Reported at about 5 p.m., the 2005 Legend Cub came to a rest in a thick stand of manzanita where fuel from the plane leaked out and into the ground. The fuel spill was reported to authorities and poses no immediate threat to people or animals in the area, according to fire officials.

The cause of the crash will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

In addition to El Dorado County Fire, California Highway Patrol, Placerville Police Department and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the scene.
