WHEELING, IL — Authorities are investigating Thursday why a plane slid off the runway overnight at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling. According to WBBM-TV, there were two pilots and seven passengers on the plane. No one was injured.

There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the incident.

Fire crews were on the scene at the airport on South Plant Road for reports of a plane in distress. According to WBBM-TV, when the plane landed, it slid off the runway and hit a fence, causing the wing to strike a pole. This caused aviation fuel to leak.
