TITUS COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – The National Transportation Safety Board has confirmed a plane crash near Mount Pleasant Sunday night.

According to the agency Twitter page, the plane was a Piper PA-32.

The NTSB is investigating the scene where the plane crashed near a tree line off of CR 4530 just north of the airport.

A dispatcher with Mount Pleasant police said information on the crash would not be available until Tuesday.

It’s unclear how many people were aboard the aircraft or the extent of any injuries.

Monday afternoon, an investigator on scene could be seen documenting the scene and examining the wreckage.

Part of the investigation includes requesting radar data, weather information, air traffic control communication, airplane maintenance records and the pilot’s medical records.

The NTSB said it’s important to note that they do not determine a cause this early on. This is the fact gathering phase of the investigation.

Monday afternoon, Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport Manager Paul Henderson said he doesn’t know much about the crash itself, but the plane was supposed to land at their airport.

The NTSB said a preliminary report on this crash will likely be released in the coming weeks. However, a full investigation can take between 12 and 24 months.
