LUTZ — A single-engine plane crashed Saturday while trying to take off from Tampa North Aero Park, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue.

The crash took place near the runway at 4241 Birdsong Blvd. Two people were onboard. One was taken to a hospital and the other was being evaluated at the crash scene.

There were no hazards such as spilled fuel at the crash scene, officials said. No other details about the crash were released.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.

In May, a 61-year-old Madeira Beach pilot died after taking off from Tampa North Aero Park in his 1973 single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza.

After aborting two takeoff attempts because of signs of engine trouble, according to a federal report, on the third attempt the plane cleared some trees and experienced more engine trouble.

It crashed into the backyard of an empty house in a nearby subdivision in Wesley Chapel.
