A small airplane crashed in Alexander City Sunday morning, according to the Alexander City Fire Department.
No one was injured in the incident, the department said in a Facebook post that advised people avoid the area of the crash, with took place “in the field behind Taco Bell” at 3779 Highway 280.
The plane reportedly caught fire after its occupants escaped.
Alexander City Fire Department Captain Wayne Windsor confirmed the details of the Facebook posting in a brief phone interview with AL.com Sunday morning.
“That’s all I can release at this time,” he said. “There were no injuries, that’s correct.”
Asked if the crash or the ensuing response have resulted in traffic in the surrounding area, Windsor said, “not major traffic.”
The Alexander City Police Department Detective Division also posted information about the plane crash on Facebook Sunday morning. Twitter chatter was relatively quiet about the incident.
“Please avoid the area of Taco Bell,” the police post stated. “There has been a plane crash with NO fatalities. The are (sic) is going to be closed until further notice.”
WSFA News reported that the Alexander City Fire Department said the plane had two occupants.
