The pilot of a helicopter-like aircraft crashed on a dirt road near the Corona Municipal Airport on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 13, and suffered minor injuries.

Before 1 p.m., the gyrocopter crashed in a construction yard near Rincon Street and Smith Avenue, said Justin McGough of the Corona Fire Department.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash’s cause.

Earlier this week, a single-engine airplane landed on the 91 Freeway in Corona, clipping a truck and catching fire but causing no injuries.

It is unclear where the pilot took off, but he was trying to land at the airport, said Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis of the Corona Police Department.

The pilot declined treatment from first responders.
