No one was injured when a small plane from Naples made an emergency landing Wednesday morning along a stretch of Alligator Alley, officials said.

The pilot, a 45-year-old man, reported a mechanical issue affecting the engine that forced him to land alongside the interstate, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The plane landed along the right emergency shoulder in western Broward County.

Troopers said the pilot was able to land without affecting traffic on the road. But once the plane landed, a small landscaping truck clipped its wing, causing it to rotate clockwise.

The highway’s right lane was closed until the plane could be removed, the news release said.

The pilot and his 60-year-old female passenger escaped without injury, troopers said. Their names were not released.

News outlets report the plane took off from Naples and was heading to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
