There are confirmed fatalities, according to the sheriff’s office.

It remains unclear how many people died in a plane crash near downtown Victoria Saturday afternoon.

The private aircraft took off from Alexandria airport and was en route to Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie when it went down at approximately 5:44 p.m. adjacent to Rose Street near the western suburb’s downtown.

Shocking video of the tragedy shows the plane slam into the ground and crash into a house before erupting into flames. Warning: Graphic video.

The plane crashed into the house at 7956 Rose Street, according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office. The family was home at the time of the crash but no one in the house or nearby outside was injured.

“There are confirmed fatalities,” the sheriff’s office said late Saturday night. It’s unclear how many people were onboard the aircraft, which was identified by the FAA as a single-engine Mooney M20 that seats up to four people.

Highway 5 was shut down between the north and south directions of County Road 11, but has since reopened to traffic.

“This is a tragic event that happened near the heart of Victoria and our community will keep the victims of this incident and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during this time,” the sheriff’s office said.

The NTSB is investigating the crash.
