Both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Aviation Administration are looking into a threat broadcast on a dedicated aviation radio frequency in New York. On Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, a robotic voice threatened to crash an airplane into the U.S. Capitol building.

The U.S. Capitol will be on high alert Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 – due in part to a threat broadcast on a dedicated aviation radio frequency in New York. CBS News reports the Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the source of a pre-recorded message broadcast to air traffic controllers on Monday. Jan. 4, 2021.

“WE ARE FLYING A PLANE INTO THE CAPITOL WEDNESDAY”

According to the audio obtained exclusively by CBS News, the message came from an unknown party with a robotic voice. It is unclear which frequency the short threat was sent over.

“We are flying a plane into the Capitol on Wednesday,” the robotic voice stated. “Soleimani will be avenged.”

The threat was sent on the one-year anniversary of the death of Iranian general Qassem Solemani, who was killed by a U.S. drone strike. President Donald Trump ordered the attack, calling the former major general of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a “monster.”

The ominous warning also referenced a date expected to bring controlled chaos to the Washington, D.C. area. In a joint session, the U.S. Congress will meet on Wednesday to certify the electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election, the final step in president-elect Joe Biden’s path to the White House. A protest rally is expected to take place at The Ellipse on the same day, which will be attended by the president.

Although officials do not believe the threat is credible, a spokesperson for the FBI told CBS News they take “all threats of violence to public safety seriously.” Officials at The Pentagon and other agencies have reportedly been briefed on the situation. The incident is currently under investigation as a breach of aviation frequencies.

Air traffic controllers have been asked to immediately report any aircraft deviating from their prescribed flight path.

AVIATION THREAT COMES AS TRUMP POTENTIALLY MAKES PLANS TO SKIP INAUGURATION

The threat was made after plans leaked that Trump may not attend the 2021 presidential inauguration, instead potentially opting to visit Scotland. The Sunday Post reports a Scottish airport has been warned to expect the arrival of a U.S. military Boeing 757 on Jan. 19, 2021 – the day before the inauguration. The White House has not commented on the report.
