Today is Veterans Day here in the United States, a federal holiday that coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day that are celebrated in other parts of the world to mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.

Veterans Day here in the United States is a day to celebrate and to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

I ask all of you to remember these words spoken by Abraham Lincoln; “Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.”

To those who have served in our nation’s military, Thank You for your sacrifices to provide me with freedom and security!

And on a personal note, congratulations to my friend and old ARFF training partner Tim Sampey, who after 36.6 years on the Chicago Fire Department retires at the end of his 24 hour shift tomorrow morning. I wish him well as he and his wife Jamie start this new chapter in their lives! See you down here in Paradise in a couple of weeks Brother…

Now here are the stories to close out the week…

Be safe out there!

Tom
