LUCKNOW Panic ensued among the residents of Ghazipur village when two fuel tanks of a fighter plane unexpectedly plummeted onto a farm field during a training sortie in the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) police station area of Lucknow on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident unfolded as the tanks descended, landing at separate locations in the fields of two local farmers. Although the impact created a resounding blast, miraculously, no injuries were reported, as confirmed by both the BKT police and defence authorities.

Rana Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of BKT, explained the sequence of events, “The fuel tank of a fighter plane was found to have fallen in the fields of two farmers. Locals promptly alerted the BKT police at 112. Subsequently, the police, in collaboration with BKT Air Force station officials and the fire brigade, secured the area around the fallen fuel tank.”

Following this, Air Force personnel arrived at the scene to recover the fuel tank and transport it away. “During a routine training mission, two drop tanks were unintentionally jettisoned from an Indian Air Force (IAF) Kiran aircraft near BKT airfield, likely due to a systems malfunction,” stated Shantanu Pratap Singh, Central Command PRO.

The statement continued, “The aircraft managed a safe landing, while the damaged drop tanks were swiftly retrieved by an IAF search party, in coordination with local law enforcement. The incident took place in an unpopulated field, causing neither injury nor damage to life or property on the ground.”

This unusual incident sent shockwaves through the Ghazipur village on Wednesday, as two fuel tanks from a Surya Kiran fighter plane descended into farmlands. Around 2:30 pm, the fuel tanks landed at separate locations in the fields belonging to Sant Charan and Ram Kuber, local farmers.

Sant Charan recounted his experience, stating that he was near his field when a deafening sound filled the air, leaving him deeply unsettled. The villagers promptly informed the BKT police and dialled 112, initiating a swift response to ensure the safety of the area.
