Stow police and fire crews responded to a plane crash Sunday morning near Barton Road.

Police and fire received reports of a crash at around 11:09 a.m. near the American Heritage Museum, according to Police Chief Michael Sallese and Fire Chief John Benoit.

Upon arrival, crews located a World War I era Nieuport 28, a single engine plane, at the end of the runway on its roof.

The pilot exited the plane before responders arrived.

He was the only person on the plane.

Investigators said the landing gear failed as the pilot attempted to land at the museum, causing the plane to flip onto its roof.

The pilot was evaluated on scene but did not report any injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash and will investigate.
