Luiz Fara Monteiro

The commander of the Gol plane, registration PS-GPP, immediately notified the control tower at Galeão airport about the collision with a car in the middle of the runway . The Boeing 737 MAX was accelerating to take off on the evening of last Tuesday (11). “I aborted the takeoff. We crashed into a car in the middle of the runway,” the pilot warned.

It was after 10 p.m., so it was dark. Videos made by passengers recorded the sound of the impact. In the conversation, the control tower responded to the pilot with a tone of disbelief: “Gol 1674, confirm: did you collide with the vehicle?” The captain then responded: “Affirmative.”

Plane crashes near Hampton Airfield: Pilot uninjured

Max Sullivan - Portsmouth Herald

HAMPTON — A small single-occupant airplane crashed near Hampton Airfield on Tuesday morning, with the pilot escaping uninjured, according to Hampton police.

Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno said the crash, reported at 10:12 a.m., is still under investigation.

The pilot, he said, had been flying in and out of the nearby Hampton Airfield, located just over the border in North Hampton. The plane crashed in the wooded area right off the area of Reddington Landing, a street located near the end of the airfield’s runway.

Reno said around 11 a.m., the pilot, Hampton firefighters, and staff from Hampton Airfield were at the scene of the crash.

“He’s OK, he was able to walk out and get assessed by Hampton fire,” Reno said.

Hampton Deputy Fire Chief Nate Denio said the pilot was evaluated at the scene and did not want to be transported to a hospital.

Reno said New Hampshire State Police were expected to come to the scene and communicate with the Federal Aviation Administration, which will oversee the investigation.

The airfield is home to a flight school and the popular Airfield Café breakfast and lunch restaurant, where guests have a view of the runway. The flight school declined to comment when called other than to express gratitude that the pilot was safe.

Denio said firefighters received a report of an explosion that he believes was likely the impact of the crash. One witness said he was inside his home when he felt his house shake from the impact of the crash nearby.

“I was thinking there was snow coming off my roof,” Chris Martin said outside his Reddington Landing home.

Martin, who has lived on the street for a few years, said this was the first airplane crash he had experienced there. Other neighbors have witnessed crashes before, including one in 2015 that resulted in serious injuries and burns to two people inside a Piper Cherokee, both of whom survived.

“The guy walked away. Thank God,” Martin said of Tuesday’s crash.

NTSB Final Report: Pipistrel Italia S R L Alpha Trainer

After The Stall Warning Horn Sounded, The Airplane “Lost Lift And Had No Control”

Location: Paso Robles, California Accident Number: WPR24LA189
Date & Time: June 8, 2024, 12:10 Local Registration: N208ZM
Aircraft: Pipistrel Italia S R L Alpha Trainer Aircraft Damage: Substantial
Defining Event: Loss of control in flight Injuries: 2 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General aviation - Personal

Analysis: The pilot reported that he entered the traffic pattern for runway 04 and had previously received information by email from ground personnel, that the wind was from the south at 4 kts. While on final approach, the pilot initiated a forward slip to assist with the airplane’s descent and he terminated the slip, the stall warning horn sounded. After the stall warning horn sounded, the airplane “lost lift and had no control” as it descended into a vineyard located to the left of the runway. The airplane impacted the ground, rotated 180°, and came to rest upright. The wings, fuselage, and empennage sustained substantial damage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.

Probable Cause and Findings: The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be -- The pilot’s exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack that resulted in an aerodynamic stall and subsequent loss of control on final approach. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s decision to land with a tailwind.
